Arp, Carl. 1867 Kiel- 1913 Jena Landscape with a flock of sheep in a birch grove. Oil on canvas, signed lower left, partial craquelure. 70 x 50.5 cm. Framed. Weimar school of painting. Pupil of Kalkreuth's nature class from 1886, worked in Th. Hagen's studio. Close ties to Christian Rohlfs, who strongly influenced his work. First patron of Edvard Munch. Prov.: Family estate of Anna Seydel, Gera, whose father, the Gera master dyer Johann Christian Seydel (1817-1885), initiated the establishment of a municipal museum in Gera in 1877 and donated his private geological collection to it.
