A STAINED GLASS WINDOW WITH THE THIRD AVATARA OF LORD VISHNU, VARAHA AN EYE FOR DETAIL: PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE ESTATE IN NORTHERN LONDON Possibly Tamil Nadu, Southern India or England made for the Indian export market, late 19th - 20th century Designed as a round arch window, made of unevenly sized, painted and monochrome stained glass segments, the figure standing under the central arch representing the four-armed Varaha (the Boar), the first manifestation (avatara) of the Hindu God Vishnu, holding his characteristic lakshanas (attributes) such as the conch shell, the chakram (quoit), the shield (dhal) and the sword, flanked by slender twisted columns and flower urns reminiscent of Western interiors, 94.5cm x 48.4cm.
