A PAIR OF INDIAN CAST BRONZE NAUTICAL SHIELD PLAQUES WITH THE MONKEY GOD HANUMAN AN EYE FOR DETAIL: PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE ESTATE IN NORTHERN LONDON Gujarat, North-Western India, dated 1950 Comprising two cast and moulded 20th-century bronze nautical plaques reminiscent in shape of Western heraldic shields, the central field showcasing the figure of the Hindu Monkey-God Hanuman in relief with a floating shawl around his arms, holding his club in one hand, underneath him the date in Gujarati script reading Samvat 1950, the outer frame of one plaque heavily rubbed, but the latter featuring an inscription in Gujarati script reading Maharana Saheb Shri ... Gaji Bahadur interspersed amidst sailing boats and rosette heads, each 44.5cm x 34cm.
