WOMEN OF INDIA: A BLACK-AND-WHITE PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT OF A HINDU GIRL AN EYE FOR DETAIL: PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE ESTATE IN NORTHERN LONDON Unknown Photographer, unsigned, first half 20th century The vertical-format albumen silver print portraying a young girl, possibly a villager from rural Rajasthan or Gujarat, clad in a voluminous saree shawl over a plain white choli top, wearing a variety of traditional Indian jewellery and accessories including metal bangles, a large caparisoned nose ring, an encrusted choker, and several earrings with pearls and gems, the portrait accompanied by a handwritten caption in English cursive 'Hindoo Girl', mounted, glazed and framed, each 46cm x 39.5cm including the frame.
