AN ENGRAVED BRASS SHI'A GEOMANTIC PLAQUE WITH NUMERALS, AND ALLAH AND THE PROPHET'S NAMES AN EYE FOR DETAIL: PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE ESTATE IN NORTHERN LONDON Possibly Deccan, Central India, 19th century Of circular, slightly convex shape, the front of the plaque engraved in an arrangement typical of divinatory vessels and Islamic magic bowls, with a large square chart in the centre with 225 boxes, each containing miniature naskh inscriptions repeating the names of Allah, the Prophet Muhammad, and 'Ali, the remaining space around the edges in-filled with fifteen rows of numerals, the central row often reserved to inscriptions invoking the Prophet and the first Shi'a Imam, with a circular hoop on the reverse, 11.5cm diam.
