TWO REVERSE GLASS PAINTINGS OF INDIAN NOBLEMEN AN EYE FOR DETAIL: PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE ESTATE IN NORTHERN LONDON Possibly China or Chinese artists in Calcutta (Kolkata), West Bengal, Eastern India, 19th century Opaque pigments, polychrome enamels, white wash, and gold on glass, each vertical-format composition depicting a bust portrait of a member of the Indian courtly elite, comprising a jharokha style bust portrait of an Indian ruler, wearing an elaborate blue and red turban with bejewelled accessories and a tall aigrette at the top, set against a plain grey background, framed, 58cm x 42cm; and another similar, depicting a South Indian ruler, possibly from the Mysore area given his attire and special shaped white turban, seated on a Western high chair in an interior with heavy red curtains, set in an oval medallion against a black background, framed, 57cm x 41.5cm.
