AN INDIAN KRISHNA AND GOPIS PICHHWAI HANGING FRAGMENT Possibly Nathdwara, Rajasthan, North-Western India, second half 19th century Opaque pigments, ink, and gold on sand-coloured cotton, the tall vertical-format composition depicting two heavily adorned Rajasthani ladies wearing golden sarees with floral embroidery, holding their hands together in a typical devotional gesture, standing under a verdant 'lollipop' tree livened by a pair of peacocks, likely once part of a much larger Kirshna and Gopis pichhwai hanging panel, edged with floral scrollwork, backed, lined and mounted, 81cm x 43cm.
