AN INDIAN SILVER REPOUSSÉ MEDALLION WITH KRISHNA DANCING ON THE SNAKE KALIYA South India, 19th century Of circular shape, the lower edge caparisoned with small globular silver pendants, the front chased and worked in deep repoussé showing a dense composition portraying the Hindu god Krishna dancing on a naga, possibly the Snake Demon Kaliya (Kaliyadamana), flanked by two winged apsaras (celestial creatures), standing on a lotus pedestal underneath a kirtimukha arch, surrounded by dense vegetal and floral motifs, as well as mythical animals like makaras, and birds, the back with a circular hoop in the centre and a later-added hook at the top, 6cm diam., 62gr.
