A PAIR OF WIRED, GILT, AND LACQUERED PAPIER-MÂCHÉ KASHMIRI TABLE LAMPS Kashmir, Northern India, first half 20th century Each resting on a rounded, dome-like, circular base with a chamfered centre, the stem featuring an openwork cylinder in the middle, surmounted by two cup-like elements, possibly once used as reservoirs and now surmounted by a modern, wired light bulb's socket, fitted with later-added light brown shades, the exterior painted in polychromes, gilt, and profusely decorated with standard Kashmiri lacquer motifs including buti (paisley leaves), stylised vegetal arabesques, scrollwork, and miniature ogival arches in-filled with starry fields, each lamp stand 49cm high excluding the shade.
