TWO PIERCED AND ENGRAVED BRASS PANDAN BOXES Southern India and Deccan, 19th century Comprising a South Indian brass box, of elongated octagonal shape, most sides decorated with elephants, Hamsa ducks, and other Indian wild animals, all set against a dense vegetal ground, some figural decoration related to Hanuman and the beloved Rama-Sita couple, subjects of the Ramayana epic, engraved on two panels located to the back of the base and centre of the lid, with an openwork leaf-shaped lock on the front, 12cm x 18cm x 12.5cm; and another smaller pierced brass box, decorated with an openwork diamond-shaped grid and engraved with stylised palmettes around the edges, 8cm x 12cm x 7.5cm.
