TIPPOU-SAHEB: A LITHOGRAPHED PORTRAIT OF TIPU SULTAN OF MYSORE BY JEAN-BAPTISTE MAUZAISSE AND A FACSIMILE OFFICIAL DOCUMENT ADDRESSED TO TIPU'S FATHER, HAIDER ALI KHAN Possibly Paris, France, 19th century Lithograph on wove foxed paper, the plate signed and dated on the lower left by Jean-Baptiste Mauzaisse, 1826, engraved by Charles Motte (signed on the lower right), with a trimmed stamp of Q. M. Contemporains, Etrangers at the bottom, 35cm x 25.5cm; accompanied by a facsimile reproduction of the official act of obeyance sent by Tipu Sultan to his father, Haider Ali Khan, 18ll. of free-flowing black ink naskh script to the page, signed and stamped at the bottom and top, 38.5cm x 17cm. An analogous example of Tipu's lithographed portrait is in the British Museum (acc no. 1892,0714.804), and another sold at Bonhams New Bond Street, London, 18 – 26 May 2022 Online Sale, lot 178.
