A LACQUERED, VELVET-LINED AND BRASS-MOUNTED CARVED ROSEWOOD PEN CASE MADE FOR THE EXPORT MARKET Possibly Sri Lanka or Dutch Batavian colonies, Indonesia, South East Asia, second half 19th century Of elongated oval shape, with rounded ends and a convex hinged lid, resting on four carved wooden feet, the exterior of the case lined in darkened burgundy velvet set behind the floral brass mount with stylised vegetal scrolls and arabesque-like pattern, the hinged lid lacquered and featuring similar brass mounts with vegetal meanderings and scrolls, the interior divided into two levels, the upper level with a bipartite rectangular tray, to the sides inkwell and dust trays, 8cm x 28cm x 9.7cm.
