λ AN IVORY MINIATURE PORTRAIT OF A QAJAR OFFICIAL Possibly France or England, mid to late 19th century Opaque pigments on ivory, the rectangular miniature panel portraying an elderly white-haired Qajar official, possibly a diplomat or an envoy, clad in a typical Persian attire with a conical black Astrakhan fur hat (kaj kolah), an embroidered long red shirt and a white termeh overcoat, holding a scroll in his left hand, mounted, glazed and framed, fitted in a wooden presentation box lined in ochre velvet on the interior and in pale green silk on the exterior, possibly a commemorative diplomatic gift, the portrait 11.3cm x 7.5cm including the frame, the box 17.5cm x 12cm. λ This item may require Export or CITES licences in order to leave the UK.
