AN IRANIAN ENGRAVED AND INCISED SILVER CIGARETTE BOX WITH A SUFI DERVISH Isfahan, Pahlavi Iran, circa 1950s, stamped Lahiji Of rectangular shape, resting on four narrow bracket feet, surmounted by a hinged lid with sloping edge, the exterior finely engraved with traditional Iranian silver motifs including chased lotus scrollwork and spiralling trellis in the style of wooden monabat kari creations, alternating arabesque cartouches in-filled with foliage and flower heads, and the central field of the lid engraved with a large cupsed arabesque cartouche surrounded by wak wak tree mythical animal heads and in-filled with the seated figure of a pensive Sufi dervish with his characteristic domed hat, tabarzin axe and kashkul begging bowl, marked to the base Lahiji (لاهیجی), one of the most prominent and masterful (Ostad) silver engravers working in Isfahan in the middle of the 20th century, and standard mark (۸۴), 2.5cm x 14cm x 8cm, 268gr.
