Circular boxwood snuffbox with carved decoration in light relief of a devotional scene on the remains of Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, known as Turenne. Inscribed: "Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne Vicomte de Turenne, killed by a cannon shot at Salzbach on July 27, 1675, aged 64, buried at Saint Denis". The reverse side of the box is decorated with a trellis evoking basketwork (accidents and missing parts).
