S.Francisco de Paula gilded and polychrome wood sculpture, carved wood base, Portuguese, 18th century, 1 finger missing, polychrome flawed and worn, signs of use. Dimension: 62.5 cm high. Saint Francis of Paula was a hermit and saint of the Catholic Church. He was born in the town of Paola, in Calabria, Italy, in 1416 # He founded the Order of the Minims, which was dedicated to serving the poorest and most humble. He died in Tours, France, in 1507 and was canonized by Pope Leo X in 1519. He is the patron saint of Calabria, sailors and couples who want to get pregnant.
