The bronze bust was placed at Goldeneye, Fleming's house in Jamaica. Ian Fleming was a British author best known for his post-war spy novels, James Bond, which solidified his status as one of the most influential authors of the 20th century. He was born into a wealthy family, with connections to the Robert Fleming & Co. bank, and worked for the British Naval Intelligence Division during the Second World War before writing. Beyond his James Bond novels, Fleming also wrote children's books, travelogues, and non-fiction works. The present bust was one of the very few post-humous works created by Angela Conner who preferred working from life and numerous sittings with her subjects.
