Circular miniature of the presumed portrait of Joseph Droz as an officer on a battlefield. Unsigned. Gilded copper frame highlighted with faceted steel beads. Diameter of miniature: approx. 6.6 cm - Diameter of hoop: 7.8 cm. Wear and tears to the pictorial surface, lateral crack; no glass; bumps to the frame. François-Xavier-Joseph Droz (1773-1850) was a French moral philosopher, historian and academician. During the Revolution, in 1792, he enlisted in the 12th Doubs Battalion and served for four years in the Army of the Rhine. This portrait could illustrate one of his campaigns.
