In molded, carved and formerly painted beech, the back decorated in the center with an asymmetrical cartouche, the shoulders with relief decoration of florets and foliage, the belt with a motif of florets inscribed in a rocaille cabochon, the cambered legs ending in a scroll, upholstered in worn green velvet, stamped several times C.L. BURGAT under the rear crosspiece;small accidents and missing parts.

This elegant pair of fauteuils à la reine, characterized by ample proportions and extremely precise carving, is stamped by Claude Louis Burgat, Master in 1744.A suite of four armchairs of the same model as our pair, sold at Hôtel Drouot, Paris, June 22, 1982, lot 95;more recently, another set of four virtually identical armchairs, albeit in gilded wood, from the former Jacques Guerlain collection, sold at Christie's London, May 28, 2018, lot 231 (cfr. Fig.1).
