PAIR OF LOUIS XVI PERIOD CHIFFONIÈRE TABLES Stamped by André-Louis Gilbert In rosewood, amaranth, holly and stained wood veneer, with chased and gilded bronze ornamentation, the top encircled by an openwork gallery, the front opening with three drawers, the tapered legs with simulated fluting, stamped A.L.GILBERT under the front crosspiece;small accidents and missing parts, two missing keyholes. This type of small chiffonière table, featuring quartefoil marquetry within a trellis, was very popular around 1775. Although our pair is stamped by André-Louis Gilbert, Master in 1774, he is not the sole creator of this model. Indeed, comparable models were executed by other cabinetmakers such as Godefroy Dester (Fig. 1: Christie's Paris sale, November 8, 2013, lot 202) or Jacques Laurent Cosson (Fig. 2: Sotheby's Monaco sale, March 4, 1989, lot 233).
