LOUIS XV PERIOD SOFA
Attributed to Jean-Baptiste I Tilliard
In molded, carved and formerly painted beech, the back and waistband decorated with cartouches flanked by floral scrolls and leafy falls, resting on eight cambered legs ending in a scroll, upholstered in tapestry with polychrome floral decoration on a cream background;reinforcements on the waistband.

A Louis XV carved beechwood sofa, attributed to Jean-Baptiste I Tilliard
A sofa virtually identical to ours, stamped by Jean-Baptiste Tilliard, sold at Christie's London on June 23, 1999, lot 69 (see fig. 1). The latter was characterized by the extreme finesse of its carved motifs, combining hearts inscribed in a cartouche flanked by foliage and strikingly naturalistic floral scrolls, such as those found on our example.
