PAIR OF LOUIS XV PERIOD "À LA REINE" ARMCHAIRS Attributed to Pierre Nogaret In molded and carved walnut, decorated with leaning florets and foliate scrolls, whiplash-shaped armrests, curved legs ending in scrolls, one upholstered in red embossed velvet with floral decorations, the other bald; small accidents, belt reinforcements. H.:98 cm (38 ½ in.) l.:72cm (28 ¼ in.) Comparative bibliography: E. Mannoni, Mobilier Lyonnais, Éditions Massi, Paris, 1995, p.45. A pair of Louis XV carved walnut fauteuils a la reine, attributed to Pierre Nogaret This pair of armchairs is characteristic both in technique and style of the production of Lyon's best-known carpenter: Pierre Nogaret (1718-1771). The walnut is natural and simply waxed, the moldings sinuous, strongly marked and nicely softened by the use of naturalistic flowers. The wide-open, highly curved arm brackets are the master's trademark. Always of the highest quality, his work enabled him to rival the best craftsmen in the capital.
