Niccolo Paganini was a major 18th-century composer and violinist. He is notably the inventor of modern violin techniques. A virtuoso of his art, posterity will consider that there is a "before and after" Paganini. This drawing, by Jean Davis of Angers, depicts him in profile for a proposed medal bearing his likeness, following their meeting in 1831. The artist went on to create other sculptures of Paganini, including a bronze bust in the Galerie David in Angers.
