Pierre Jean DAVID D'ANGERS (1788-1856) Project for a medallion depicting Niccolo Paganini (1784-1840) in profile Brown ink drawing on paper, annotated "Fama Paganini non est peritusa per annos" translated as "Les années ne mettent pas en péril la célébrité de Paganini". (small stains) 12 x 10.5 cm Niccolo Paganini was a major 18th-century composer and violinist. He is notably the inventor of modern violin techniques. A virtuoso of his art, posterity will consider that there is a "before and after" Paganini. This drawing, by Jean Davis of Angers, depicts him in profile for a proposed medal bearing his likeness, following their meeting in 1831. The artist went on to create other sculptures of Paganini, including a bronze bust in the Galerie David in Angers.
