The book focuses on their dangerous journey through the Asir and Hedjaz region on camels, between Bedouin attacks and overland and sea journeys. The author describes the reaction of the soldiers, whose first encounter with camels, the behavior of the camels and the difficulties of traveling in the desert. Edouard Brémond (1868-1948), French general, head of the French military mission to the Hedjaz (1916-1917) to support the Sherif of Mecca in his revolt against the Ottoman occupiers. Author of numerous military works and memoirs on Morocco and Arabia.
