This cotton and silk canvas features two opposing friezes on a green background, bearing an anonymous, illegible inscription in white, with red fleurons and surrounded by Greek ribbons.

An Ayyubid tiraz textile fragment, Egypt, 12th century
These textiles, woven in workshops at the Fatimid court, generally bore the name of the caliph and eulogies. Another fragment with a similar inscription is published by R. Pfister, Toiles à inscriptions abbassides et fatimides, in Bulletin d'Études Orientales, Institut français de Damas, Tome XI, 1944-46, no. 66.
