This decoration is typical of the tiles executed for the restoration of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem in the mid-16th century, by order of Sultan Suleiman. It was regularly used for decorations in Damascus and Aleppo, notably in "Beit Jumblat", but also in Saint John of Jerusalem and several Armenian churches.
