Mir Emad is one of the most famous calligraphers of the Safavid period, whose hand has been a model for nasta'liq scribes ever since. Born in Qazvin, he lived for a time in Tabriz, then traveled to Baghdad, Damascus and Aleppo, before settling permanently in Isfahan, where he entered the court of Shah Abbas I.
