23-leaf Persian manuscript painted in gouache and gold with 23 erotic miniatures. Binding with painted and lacquered decoration.

Each illustration depicts a carnal scene, in an interior opening onto the exterior, and framed by a Persian text in nasta'liq in red, blue, yellow, black or green ink explaining the correct way for men to proceed in order to improve their relationships with women. "Alfieh o Shalfieh" is an illustrated manual on sexuality, written in the Seljuk period. The author, poet Hakim Abu-Bakr Arzaqi, wrote it for Alp-Arsalan's son, Tughan Shah. It was copied up to the Qajar period.
