This delightful painting depicts a nocturnal scene on an outdoor terrace. A prince, seated on a gold carpet, offers his mistress a drink in a delicate gold vessel, accompanied by female musicians and a duenna with a flag in her hand. The intricate patterns of brocade dresses and multiple layers of textiles and carpets create a striking contrast, while the delicately painted, glittering moonlit sky adds to the relaxed atmosphere.

A Victoria & Albert Museum typed label on the reverse (circa 1960s) mentions the title, the school of painting, and the fact that this is a painting from a series of Nayikas.
