DAUM - Le Roy Neiman (1921-2012) Decorative blue glass paste ASSIETTE, decorated with three skiers in relief. Diameter: 26.5 cm. LeRoy Neiman collaborated with Daum to create two commemorative plates for the 1972 Olympic Games. One was a plate for the Munich Olympics, the other for the Winter Olympics held in Sapporo, Japan. The official version featured three skiers in relief in the centre, the inscription "Sapporo 1972" and the Olympic rings in gold around the edge. This plate is therefore probably the prototype for this project. Neiman was an artist known for his snapshot drawings. In 1972, he also drew the world chess tournament between Boris Spassky and Bobby Fischer in Reijavik, live.
