Buddhist altar in wood carved with clouds, Greek friezes, lotus petals and flowers and inlaid with gilt bronze and cloisonné enamel plaques of lotus flowers in their foliage, the pillars decorated with a dragon in the clouds, topped by a gilt bronze and serpentine knob of lotus flowers and children. Provenance: Collection of Doctor Maurice Fournials. Appointed in 1923 to the French Occupation Corps in China, he later became the guard physician at the French Legation in Peking, then assistant physician to the President of the Chinese Republic.
