STAMPS ON FRAGMENTS - KILOS SEALED from the JAPANESE GOVERNMENT.
In the 70s and 80s, when their stamps were demonetized, the Japanese postal service glued unsold stamps to sheets of paper to keep track of them, then cancelled them with a continuous roller. These stamp-covered sheets were then placed in a box, which was sealed with an official sealing strip as soon as it was full. These 30 x 39.5 cm cartons - 8 cm thick - contain thousands (20,000,
25,000...) of stamps in multiples - small formats and commemoratives mixed together.
