Capa joined the advancing soldiers, experiencing the landing on Omaha Beach at their side as he photographed the scene.
The soldier pictured is Huston Riley, a member of Fox Company, who landed in the first wave. He was shot 4 times in the shoulder, and a photographer helped him out of the water.
Huston Riley died in 2011 at the age of 90.
