32 splendid color copper-engraved illustrations in the text by Sylvain Sauvage, including the frontispiece, 8 compositions with integrated red lettering, 22 very large chapter-heads covering almost all the pages and one composition in the text. The volume is also sprinkled with numerous ornaments and initials in red and black.
Edition of 237 copies, this one of 185 on vellum (no. CXXXIX).
A fine copy beautifully bound by Marguerite Fray, who practiced in Paris from 1930 to 1974.
