One of the few publications printed in Egypt during the French occupation, this one from the Imprimerie Nationale in Cairo, run by the learned orientalist Jean-Joseph Marcel. This is the collection of supporting documents used in the trial of the Kurdish student Soleyman el-Halaby (1777-1800), tried for murdering General Jean-Baptiste Kléber (1753-1800) during the Egyptian campaign on June 14, 1800. Kléber had just succeeded Bonaparte as commander-in-chief of the French army of occupation. The book contains the minutes of el-Halaby's interrogations and those of his accomplices, as well as the court judgment. The brochure was printed separately in French, Arabic and Turkish. We have here only the French version, which, like the other two, was printed in 500 copies. Copy as issued, uncut. A few small wormholes on the first two leaves, reaching the title. Discreet wetness and rare foxing on the first leaf.
