CHAISSAC (Gaston). La Leçon de gravure. [Baslieux]: Jean Vodaine, [1976]. - In-12, 191 x 140: (8 ff. first, third, fifth and last 2 blank), 12 plates, illustrated cover. In sheets, filled cover. Posthumous first edition of this collection of 12 original linocuts by Gaston CHAISSAC (1910-1964). Here is the presentation of the collection given by Vodaine at the head of the book: "When I asked Chaissac for linocuts to illustrate his Histoires d'un Vacher, which I was going to print, he replied that it was preferable to choose someone other than him to illustrate his texts. In any case, he had never engraved lino and I could take care of it. I objected that I had never engraved. I suggested he choose a young shoemaker, Luc Duvot, for his Histoires. But he too had never worked with lino. The three of us began engraving. Duvot with Histoires d'un Vacher. Vodaine with a collection of poems by Dune, and Chaissac with this posthumous edition in which I find engravings he sent me in 1952. These linocuts, now in poor condition, will be reprinted one last time, to accompany unpublished texts by Chaissac, after which they will be unusable." Limited edition of 100 copies, plus a few "hors commerce" copies for Madame Chaissac. This is ONE OF THE FIRST 30 ON PURE LANA CHIFFON, numbered and signed by Vodaine at the justification. A very well preserved copy.
