First edition of this vast poetic work by André Suarès, printed in an edition of 270 copies on Montval laid paper.
One of the great modern illustrated books, it is adorned with 99 compositions by Georges ROUAULT (1871-1958), including 17 original aquatints in color out of text, and 82 woodcuts drawn by the artist and engraved by Georges Aubert, including one on the cover, one on the title, 25 at the head of a chapter, 18 in the cul-de-lampe, and 37 full-page woodcuts.
Copy 183, one of 245 numbered in Arabic numerals. It is complete with the table of hors-texts, in which the subjects engraved in black by Rouault are reproduced on a double sheet.
