Follower of Annibale Carracci (BOLOGNA 1560 - ROME 1609). Venus tries to dissuade Adonis from going hunting. Oil on canvas. cm57x70. The work takes as its counterpart a composition by Annibale Carracci known in two versions preserved in the Prado Museum and the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. After 1665 Luigi Scaramuccia (1616-1680) drew an engraving of the Prado painting from which our painter was probably inspired to execute the painting under consideration, omitting the detail of the putto to the right of Venus.
