Hispano-Flemish school. Circa 1500.
"Soldier, possibly St. George."
Sculpture in carved and polychromed wood.
123,5 x 25 x 66 cm.
This sculpture is a masterpiece by a great master.
The armour is made with great detail and precision, faithfully reflecting even the smallest details of such complicated clothing, even carving the coat of chain mail that can be seen around the armpits, which could have been ignored because it is not even visible at first. There is equal delicacy in the carving ofall the rivets, pieces of armour, footwear etc. without forgetting the magnificent face of the character, which as we suggest in our title could be St. George.
