Vicente López Portaña (Valencia, 1772 - Madrid, 1850) ‘Saint Bishop Doctor of the Church (Saint Augustine?)’. Drawing in ink on paper. 9,8 x 7,5 cm. Probably preparatory for an unknown engraved print. Saint Augustine holding a model of a small church. This and the next four drawings by the Valencian artist Vicente López are an excellent example of the part of his activity with which he achieved the greatest dissemination of his art: the design of devotional prints, much of them engraved by Vicente Capilla and Francisco Jordán. These are unpublished works and in fact they should be catalogued through the engravings included in the catalogue raisonné of Vicente López's work by José Luis Díez (Vicente López: Vida y Obra 1772-1850, Fundación de Apoyo a la Historia del Arte Hispánico, Madrid, 1999).
