Height: 40 cm.
Rhineland, around 1540/50.
Exceptionally graceful design of the small standing figure with a youthful face, standing in contrapposto on a matching plinth, with the usual attributes such as a book, sword and wheel. At her feet is the equally finely carved half-figure of Emperor Maxentius, with crown hood and braided beard, under whom she suffered martyrdom. The retarded style of the bowl and pointed arch folds still points to the late Gothic period, but the rounded tips of the feet already indicate a later date. Carved in the round, with largely preserved old mounts and partial gilding. The crown is separate, chased in sheet brass. A.R. (1401306) (11)
