Elfenbein-Relieftafel „Ecce Homo“

Height: 18 cm. Width: 12.5 cm. Depth: 1.3 cm. Mounted on acrylic plate. 30 x 25.5 cm. 17th century. Enclosed CITES document, valid for commercial purposes in the EU. Rectangular panel depicting the suffering Christ in half-length, partially painted, the nimbus disc as well as the pastern and the corncob-shaped end of the mocking sceptre gilded. A stylized rosette in each of the lower corners and at the top. The inlaid inscription plaque in silver. Bordered by raised frame strips. The style indicates a work from the Dutch colonial period in Ceylon. The island, Portuguese from 1505, fell under Dutch rule in the 17th century and under British rule in 1802.
