JUDGMENT OF PARIS
Oil on wood. Backed with wood panel.
80 x 120 cm.
In a frame carved with vines.
Mythological scene painted in strong polychromy with a dense staffage of figures depicting Paris with the golden apple. From the center left Paris together with the three goddesses Aphrodite, Athena and Hera. The offended Eris has thrown a golden apple with the inscription "the most beautiful" among the celebrating gods. Zeus puts the dispute between the goddesses in the hands of the mortal Paris, who chooses Aphrodite, who promises him the most beautiful woman in the world. She, who has already pushed the other two goddesses to the left edge of the picture, is already about to receive the "apple of discord" from Paris. (1391821) (13)
