RESURRECTION OF CHRIST

Old adhesive label verso.
We would like to thank Mr. Peter van den Brink for kind information on the cataloguing.
The painter can be seen as a successor to Jan Mandyn. His interest in grotesque depictions of figures, striking colors and surprising compositions is also evident in this painting. The Risen Christ literally floats away from a sarcophagus that does not correspond to his size in a way that is hardly natural; the bright colors in the robes of the guards can also be seen as characteristics of Mannerism, as can the yellow ray of light that catches the figure of Christ. The Three Marys, who approach the burial cave in the background where an angel awaits them, are far more restrained in terms of color. (1380611) (11)
