VENUS WITH CUPID AND SERVANT
Oil on canvas. Doubled.
87 x 80 cm.
In gilded frame with acanthus leaf relief.
Venus with an arrow in her hand seated behind a wall projection in front of an implied window with a dark green curtain to the right. Next to her is the corresponding quiver and Cupid, standing backwards towards the viewer, looking out of the picture field towards the viewer. The figure of a servant with a basket of fruit can be seen in front of the window. Overall, the composition is modeled on Titian, but was created in his late succession and probably refers to Titian's "Initiation into the Mysteries of Bacchus". (1400031) (13)
