GENIUS OF THE ARTS
Oil on canvas. Doubled.
93 x 68 cm.
In gilded frame with relief decoration.
Personification of the allegory in the form of a winged boy with a wreath of leaves and a blue loincloth. He sits on a pedestal, surrounded by a still-life arrangement of a violin, sheet music, a palette with a paintbrush, books, a compass and protractor in front of him, and a theater mask on which he has placed his foot. Next to it is a cornucopia with medals and coins. In his hand he holds a laurel wreath, symbolizing the glory of the arts, in the background a pyramid in the style of the tomb of Cestius in Rome.
