PROCLAMATION TO THE SHEPHERDS. Oil on canvas. Old doubling. 124 x 181 cm. Cuyp's name on an old plaque affixed to the frame. In a gilt wide frame with meander and pearl band relief. The painting offered here is registered at the RKD in The Hague under number 108143 as an autograph work by Benjamin Gerritsz. Cuyp. A wide, slightly hilly landscape with a thatched hut on the right edge of the picture, its gable supported by a bent branch. In front of it, the shepherds lying down are awakened by a bright glow of light with the appearance of angels, between them and in the background in glistening light several sheep. A smaller version painted on wood is registered at the RKD in The Hague under number 60503. Frame dam.
