HUNTING STILL LIFE WITH BIRDS
Oil on canvas.
98 x 73 cm.
In decorative frame.
In a landscape in the light of the yellow-reddish setting sun, lying on a small mound of ground, at the upper end of which stands a branched tree with a sitting bird, several hunted birds with splendid, in part finely worked plumage, including doves and quails. The view to the right is of a lake with a sailing boat and a town behind it in front of a mountain range, depicted in the artist's typical manner.
The artist was a painter from the southern Netherlands who worked in Austria in the 18th century. He was court painter in Vienna from 1705-1750 and, like his brother Johann Georg de Hamilton (1672-1737), is known for his hunting scenes. (14008514) (18)
