VENEDIGVEDUTE: IL PONTE DI RIALTO
Oil on canvas.
38 x 46 cm.
In gilded and carved frame.
Accompanied by a copy of an expertise by Dario Succi, Gorizia.
This atmospheric, luminous view of the Rialto Bridge seen from the south suggests a style characterized by the particularity of the iconographic themes, which include aspects of a small and hidden Venice. In fact, our gaze focuses not only on the architectural splendor of the bridge, but also on the small details of the figures who live in the city, details such as gondoliers at work, fishermen on boats, up to the red flag that stands out against the white of the bridge in the center of the composition. Guardi's works, which are generally characterized by a peculiar, emblematic style and a preference for small formats, mainly executed in tempera, found favour with many collectors, especially English travellers, who liked to buy vedute to take home as souvenirs of their stay in the historic lagoon city.
