In a wide Arcadian landscape with a small river, Abel lying slain on the ground in the foreground, his death mourned by the bystanders dressed in fur robes, some of them with large gestures of their arms. The fleeing Cain, terrified by his deed, can be seen in the background on the right, while Abel's flock of sheep can be seen in a meadow on the left.
